“A Field Snail” by Montserrat Rodríguez
Country: L’Estartit, Girona, Spain
Parts used: Leaves
Amount: 1 branch
Extracted by: Mortar and strainer
Thinner: 15 mL tap water and 2 mL of ethyl alcohol 96%
Application: Brushing
Layers: 3
Substrate: Arches Cold Pressed watercolour paper, 300gsm, 100% cotton
Created with: Positive on OHP paper
Exposure time: 7 days, June, summer 2023
Contrast: ✿✿✿ (High)
Challenges or observations: The emulsion took on a olive green hue, with considerable residue. I strained it twice. Too much smell, but I loved it. With the sun, it yellowed.
Additional information: This picture belongs to a series in progress, which I am taking from repeated walks along the same rural road at different times of the year. I collect samples, take photos with my mobile phone and edit them with mobile apps. I convert them to digital positives and negatives, print them on acetate sheets to expose them to the sun. I obtain anthotypes and cyanotypes of the ecosystems on that pathway. They are part of my thoughts and reflections on space and territory within Drift Art and Action Art.
