“Perilous Branch (White Flag pt.1)” by Ayo Varillas
Country: Lexington, Kentucky, USA
Parts used: Leaves of the spinach and fruit flesh of the pepper
Amount: Two handfuls of spinach and two whole peppers
Extracted by: Blender
Thinner: Cheap vodka
Application: Brushing
Layers: 2: one layer of Spinach emulsion over one layer of Red Pepper emulsion
Substrate: Stonehenge paper
Created with: Laser printed OHP positives
Exposure: 3 ½ hours, August 19th 2023 on a hot sunny day
Contrast: ✿ Low
Challenges or observations: Could have used some more time to help with readability of the image. The green overlayer of the spinach was bleached away by the sun, leaving a pretty orange from the bell peppers. If too many layers are applied, the orange and green mix into a brown color.
Additional information: I think this was a really fun experiment with layering. I will try again and leave it in the sun longer to create a better image.

This anthotype is part of World Anthotype Day
World Anthotype Day was started by AlternativePhotography.com in 2022. In August anthotype artists all over the world celebrate the anthotype process and send in their entries.
