Beetroot (Beta vulgaris var. conditiva) anthotype by Montserrat Rodríguez aka nyx10110Beetroot (Beta vulgaris var. conditiva) for making anthotypesAmount: 2 teaspoons of red juice
Extracted using: Blender  (Juice extractor)
Thinner: 1 teaspoon Ethyl Alcohol 96°
Layers: 2
Used to create image: Photogram of dry red rose petals and leaves

Challenges or observations: It is a series of anthotypes with minimalist style from photograms of parts of fresh or dried garden roses. For the emulsion, I used red beet juice, spinach green and blue cabbage (RGB). I have also done tests combining emulsions, but I am still not completely satisfied with the result. Additional information: The garden is very dry with the different heat waves that we are suffering on the Costa Brava this summer. The impression of the dried petals and leaves makes me think of the temperature and water problems we are going to have in the coming years with climate change, but their random compositions also remind me that we can take action and that there is still hope that not everything will break under the glass. They are like our projects for the future; some go well and others fail, but we continue…

This anthotype is part of World Anthotype Day

World Anthotype Day was started by AlternativePhotography.com in 2022. In August anthotype artists all over the world celebrate the anthotype process and send in their entries. We add them here to the database and create a reference book for each year. The purpose of the day is to build a large resource where artist can learn which pigmenets and plants that work and draw inspiration from other artists' work. The reference books can be found here:

Volume 1 is the first book in the series:
Anthotype Emulsions, Volume 1 – The collective research from photographers on World Anthotype Day 2022
Volume 1 contains 60 unique anthotype emulsions from 103 artists taking part from 31 countries.
