Marie Lund, an artist who practices within the mediums of photography, printing and painting, was born in Prague. She has a long and involved relationship with the arts. Marie graduated from two ancient Czech universities, first receiving a Dip Art Ed. and then achieving Dr. Art Ed. Her involvement in art and education has facilitated many trips throughout Europe and Asia. Marie calls Australia home. She has been a recipient of several government grants and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. She has held thirteen solo exhibitions. Marie has a special interest in old photographic processes as an art form, particularly Photograms and Sun Prints. This “printing out process” when combined with scanning and digital reprinting allows her to create images of fascinating tonal textures.

“I have been collecting old photographic papers, or shall I say rescuing them from being thrown out. During the summer I can experiment with them. Living close to the national park and sea allows me to desire freedom and enjoy the process and use my imagination. I tie some papers to the trees or clip them on the bushes. Sometimes the wind blows them away, and sometimes birds or other creatures pass over them. I carry buckets of seawater with seaweeds. I collect objects of interesting shape or textures from the beach or in the bush, even dead insects which I incorporate in the composition. I use seawater, or dip flora in the water or use one image as a negative and then overlap and combine them. There are a number of possibilities. Hopefully, I will find time to paint over some.”
