“Dealing with danger” by Teresa Guxens, Barcelona, Spain
Parts used: Petals
Amount: Four handfuls for each print
Extracted by: Mixer
Thinner: Distilled water
Application: Brushing
Layers: 7
Substrate: Canson paper multitechnical, medium grain, 300 gsm
Created with: Photogram of three ferns
Exposure: 9 days in August and September, summer 2025
Temperature: around 28° Celsius or 82° Fahrenheit
Contrast: ✿✿ Medium
Challenges or observations: The petals are purple, but when crushed and mixed with distilled water, the emulsion turns brown. Once applied to paper and exposed to the sun, it retains this brown colour.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: This plant is extremely toxic, and we warn you not to pick or use it. It is not recommended to be used for anthotypes or any other purpose. It is known as Aconite or Wolfsbane (genus Aconitum, family Ranunculaceae), native to western and central Europe. Even casual handling can be dangerous.
Teresa says: “I picked the petals without realising what the plant was. After photographing and identifying it with plant identifyer apps, I discovered its toxicity. It is strongly advised not to touch it or use it. For safety reasons, this plant should be avoided entirely.”
