Mix of Rosehip (Rosa canina), Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) anthotype by Elaine Lauzon

“Autumn Falls” by Elaine Lauzon, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Parts Used: Chopped fresh Turmeric, dried rosemary and the contents from a rosehip tea bag
Amount: 1 teaspoon of turmeric and 1 teaspoon of rosemary, 1 bag of rosehip tea, blended with various plants
Extracted by: Mortar
Solvent: 1/2 tsp Vodka and 1 tablespoon of distilled water
Application: Brushing

Layers: 2
Substrate: Fabriano hot-press watercolour paper, 140 lb / 250 gsm, cut down to 3″ x 5″.
Created with: A variety of dried tree leaves from a park and dried curry leaves from my cupboard, placed on the paper
Exposure: 8 days in September, fall 2025
UV strength: Varied, but many sunny days. They were in a window so the glass would have had an effect.
Temperature: 15-31° Celsius or 59-88° Fahrenheit
Contrast: ✿ (Low)
Challenges or observations: This was the best of the three prints I made—the others showed less contrast, likely due to differences in the plants used. A small stick on this print created an interesting dark shape.
Additional information: I used small glass clip frames for exposure and gently toned the prints with sodium carbonate afterwards.
