Mix of Old Bay seasoning and Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) border anthotype by Kathleen Bishop

Parts used: Powder for the anthotype and Raspberry fruit for the border
Amount: 2 tablespoons Old Bay, a small tray of berries
Extracted by: Soaking the Old Bay, mortar and pestle for berries
Thinner: Tap water for Old Bay (1/4 cup), no thinner for berries
Application: Brushing with a sponge brush

Challenges or observations: The berries and Old Bay were two separate emulsions. Berries were painted on the edge of the paper, and Old Bay is creating the main image. The berries faded faster than the Old Bay, so I might apply more berry emulsion after exposure so the colour is darker. Emulsions were strained through one layer of cheesecloth two times or until free of solids or impurities. The berries had no thinner added, while the Old Bay was soaked for a few hours in water.
Additional information: I’m from Baltimore MD, so I had to represent Old Bay, our favourite summertime spice. It printed with a pleasing orange colour and made the room smell like a bushel of crabs!
