Michael Berkowitz

Michael Berkowitz is a New York based artist who explores alternative photographic processes – such as Palladium prints.
From: New York, USA.
Shows: Palladium prints on COT320.

Michael Berkowitz is a native of New York City, NY. For most of his life he was a Sculptor, performance and installation artist. Though he began doing photography as a young teen, he never considered exploring it as an art form. About 15 years ago, after seeing a book of photographs from the 1800s, he decided to take up large format photography seriously. Inspired by the elaborate studio setups of early photographic portraiture, he incorporated his artistic skills into his photos, designing and making sets, costumes, and jewellry for subjects.

“I’ve always loved the warm colors and textures of early photographic processes as well as the richness of formal studio portraiture. I love the “objectness” of and made photos and so have been inspired to pursue alt processes as a serious artist.”
