Marion Sidebottom describes herself as a nature-based artist and photographer who is particularly drawn to botanical subjects and working with botanical materials.
From: Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex, UK.
Shows: Cyanotypes.
Marion Sidebottom has been experimenting with using plants in her work since researching for her MA in Art and Design in 2014. For a few years her main focus was photographing ancient trees and woodlands and working with environmental charities including being an artist-in-residence in Epping Forest for a year.
In 2016, she attended an anthotype workshop with Nettie Edwards which opened a whole world of possibilities and has recently been inspired by Almudena Romera’s chlorophyll printing process. Most of her recent alternative photography work has been in both traditional and wet cyanotypes using her pressed plants to create patterns and multiple exposures.
Marion Sidebottom enjoys researching and experimenting with new techniques and teaches art and photography workshops for the Royal Horticultural Society and in her studio in Essex.
“Alternative photography encompasses an exciting mix of art and science so I can continually explore and experiment whilst creating art.”
