Margrieta Jeltema was born under Northern skies, in the Netherlands. She has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Italy, Algeria, the Caribbean, Chile, Portugal and Romania.
During her biology studies with a major in philosophy at Wageningen (the Netherlands), Margrieta started with a variety of studies in bronze casting, painting, etching and ceramics.

Her work embraces poetry, sculpture, but her main creative outlet is photography.

Her love for the material world of ancient camera’s, with their glass plates and gelatin

films extends itself naturally into the making of prints, all kind of prints. Though she likes to make archival fine ink-jet art prints, the making of gelatin silver prints is a richer pleasure and the most rewarding printmaking efforts for her are to be found in the making of albumen prints with their unrivaled richness of tones.

The last few years she has received a number of awards, nominations and publications. Many of her photographs took part in international exhibitions and have been published (albumen prints as well) in Photography Magazines.
Currently she lives and works in Italy.

“My favorite camera is a more than 100 years old turn of the century whole plate camera; its magic lies above all in its extreme simplicity.”

Note: The pictures shown here are albumen prints, some gold toned.
