Make a Solar Print on World Cyanotype Day in the Mojave Desert, Yucca Valley, CA, USA.  September 30 – 10:00AM – 2:30PM

Make a Solar Print on World Cyanotype Day in the Mojave Desert | Diana Shay Diehl, in person in front of Space Truckin’ Gallery (55940 29 Palms Hwy Yucca Valley, CA)  September 30, drop in between 10:00AM – 2:30PM. Proceeds from event go to helping JTREE build their outdoor education center in Joshua Tree National Park.

Diana Shay Diehl, owner of Mojave Light Studio, will be hosting the first ever WCD in her desert community as a pop-up event using her mobile art studio, aka Lucy, the camper van. The theme for World Cyanotype Day this year is INHERITANCE. A majority of the proceeds from the event will be donated to JTREE, Joshua Tree Residential Education Experience. JTREE’s efforts are to establish a living, outdoor classroom that will host students from around the nation to learn about desert ecology, history, Native American culture, and outdoor recreation with an emphasis on hands-on, active learning.

For $10, you have an opportunity to make a 5″x7″ solar cyanotype photogram (aka camera-less photo) using pre-coated artist grade watercolor paper. Start to finish, 30-ish minutes to complete. Design your photogram, expose to UV (sun)light, develop (aka water wash). Done! I will have all the supplies – coated paper, exposure frames, water, developing trays, flora and small objects to help you create a fun and meaningful design along with print samples. However, you are welcome to bring your own favorite items (film negatives, plant pieces, objects with unique shapes.) No prior experience necessary. Family friendly.

Please arrive by 2PM to give you time to make your print before ending time. No appointment needed. However, be patient if the time you decide to come is a little busy.

Prepaid spots will guarantee you have TWO pre-coated 5″x7″s set aside with your name on them if you secure your place by September 22.
