Lynn Bierbaum is an alternative photographer and glassblower from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She started doing wet plate collodion two years ago and glassblowing shortly thereafter. She studied at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, and graduated in the fall of 2017. While there she became inspired to continue learning more about historic photographic processes, so Lynn took a wet plate collodion class taught by Dan Estabrook at Penland School of Crafts in the summer of 2018 and returned again as a studio assistant for Jill Enfield in the spring of 2019.
These opportunities allowed her to refine and continue printing on her blown glass forms. Lynn Bierbaum’s work strives to find a balance between two and three-dimensional planes. She blows the glass vessels to create an extension beyond the photograph that is just as important as the image itself.
“Glass is already such a physical thing, by adding wet plate collodion on top of the forms I am able to fill the emptiness inside them.”
