Living in Oakland, California, USA, Elizabeth Opalenik works in Mordançages. You may already know her from her book Poetic Grace – Elizabeth Opalenik Photographs 1979-2007.
From: Oakland, California, USA.
Elizabeth Opalenik now lives and works in Oakland, California, but this peripatetic artist is often on the move. As a photographic artist, she believes that all good photographs are self-portraits that lie somewhere between imagination and dreams. Her 38-year career has found her teaching and making images on six continents, seeking the beauty and grace that exists within all things. Elizabeth conducts photographic portrait, figure and mordançage workshops, creating a sense of wonder and possibility in her students.
Elizabeth is committed to her black and white darkroom and furthering her work in Mordançage, where she has added her contribution to the french process by creating veils of floating silver emulsion. Her preference is working with water in any form or illusion, creating images in-camera.
Following a life-long dream, she published her first monograph, Poetic Grace-Elizabeth Opalenik Photographs 1979-2007.
“In alternative processes, one can always find shortcuts on the path, but first you must know where the journey ends.”

I am absolutely thrilled that Elizabeth will be coming to Australia in September to be presenting a range of workshops from her very diverse photographic practice, including her Mordancage work.
