“Love bite fades” by Brittonie Fletcher
Country: Boston, MA, USA and Edinburgh, UK, but print was made in a lightbox
Parts used: Berries
Amount: Handful of berries (unfiltered)
Extracted by: Mortar and soaking
Thinner: Gin
Application: Brushing (several coats)
Layers: 4
Substrate: Canson mixed media
Created with: Digital photograph converted to digital positive on pictarico
Exposure: 2 working days in a UV lightbox, August, summer 2023
Contrast: ✿✿ (Medium)
Challenges or observations: In hindsight, I should have started this exposure sooner. I knew chokeberry would take a while, but I was optimistic; it still came out with visibility. While I tend to enjoy leaving in the plant parts when strained, I think this print has too much complicating it, between the low-med contrast, short print time, brush marks and bits of plant.
Additional information: For comparative reference of print time and box strength, this same lightbox prints cyanotypes in about 8 minutes and platinum in about 3 minutes.
