Angela Chalmers is a visual artist using cyanotype, photography, and mixed media processes on paper and textiles. She has worked with the cyanotype process for over seventeen years. Her creative practice explores women’s history and popular culture. Angela makes photograms that capture objects connected to the feminine. These are often items of antiquity, in particular fragments of lace and articles worn for rites of passage, such as a wedding or christening gown.
Working in series, she strives to create narratives and a sense of history through her work. She has a passion for the Victorian age and draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement.
Angela Chalmers has a degree in Fine Art and contributed to Annette Golaz’s book Cyanotype Toning: Using Botanicals to Tone Blueprints Naturally in the Routledge series on Contemporary Practices in Alternative Process Photography. Her cyanotypes have been exhibited in London, Sweden, and France and are held in private collections in the US and Europe.
