ALCHEMY & LIGHT, A Celebration of Alternate Paths in Photography

When? Saturday, September 6, 2025, 12 PM to 5PM

Now, for the first time ever, a full day dedicated to the pursuit and enjoyment of alternative and historic photographic processes such as wet plate collodion, tintypes, photogravure, kallitypes, cyanotypes, anthotypes and more, will be presented by local photography artists at Flower City Arts Center.

Rochester has long been known as the ‘Image City’, with an indelible connection to alternative photographic processes. Long-time community arts organizations such as Flower City Arts Center have been fostering a love for the ‘old ways’, offering classes and community for artists who like to get their hands dirty while also sharing their love for these analog processes.

Internationally acclaimed artists France Sculley and Mark Osterman will deliver a keynote address. Artists Patricia Bacon, Linda VanArtsdalen, Nancy Anne Holowka and Jen Perena will offer artist talks and demonstrations of the alternative photography processes that are near and dear to their hearts. This event coincides with the 5th ‘Alternate Paths’ group exhibit, featuring photographic works by 30 regional artists on display in the Photography Department’s Sunken Room and Main Galleries, opening the previous evening and continuing through September 27, 2025.

Join us in supporting and promoting ‘Alchemy & Light: A Celebration of Alternate Paths in Photography’ while getting your organization’s name and services out to the many guests expected at this year’s event.

Your support helps us keep this event free and open to the public, while compensating the artists and Flower City Arts Center for use of space and staff time. Please contact Joseph Mangano at jmangano@flowercityarts.org or 585-244-1730 x4 for more information.
