International Krappy Kamera Competition 2026

Soho Photo Gallery is pleased to announce the 28th International Krappy Kamera Competition.

The gallery is its new space in Chelsea and is New York City’s longest-running co-operative photography gallery. All selected photographs will be exhibited at the Gallery as well as on our website.

The opening reception is Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 6 to 8 pm.

What is a Krappy Kamera

Our philosophy at Soho Photo Gallery is that great photographs can be made with basic equipment. We’re searching for extraordinary photographs made with lousy lenses, like the Holga, Diana, Ansco, and pinhole cameras.

You can create your own Krappy Kamera by swapping the lens of your non-Krappy Kamera (e.g., 4×5, SLR, DSLR) with a Krappy lens (e.g., pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell phones, disposables, and point and shoot cameras are ineligible.

Remember, the lens determines if a camera is Krappy, not its age or condition.

No AI-generated work can be submitted. AI can only be used in editing.
