Created with: Two English bluebells arranged on a scanner bed and scanned. A positive was printed on acetate with a laser jet.
Exposure: Approximately 40 hours over 2 weeks, variable sun and cloud in October, autumn 2025
UV strength: 1-2 average
Temperature: 13° Celsius or 55° Fahrenheit average
Contrast: ✿ (Low)
Challenges or observations: The first batch of emulsion was stored in the fridge for a day or two before coating, but by the time I used it, the bright blue colour had completely disappeared, turning into a dull grey. I remade the emulsion and coated the paper immediately. Once the paper is coated, it seems stable. With fewer flowers available, I could apply only two coats—ideally, three or four would create a denser base. This experiment showed that blue pigments are quite volatile and should be used fresh.
Additional information: The paper for this anthotype was coated in September 2024. It was coated, dried, and stored in cool, dark conditions. I selected it for this image because its colour evoked the delicate hue of wild bluebells.
