Daniel Rothenberg is an experimental artist whose evolving body of work reflects a deep curiosity for process and material. He graduated from Nazareth University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Ceramics. While his formal training laid a strong technical foundation, it was after graduation that Rothenberg discovered his passion for Alternative Process Photography — a turning point that reshaped his artistic trajectory.

Fascinated by the unpredictable nature of analog techniques and historical photo processes, Rothenberg has embraced experimentation as the core of his practice. His work is defined by a layered approach, blending traditional craftsmanship with unconventional methods. He is particularly drawn to the physicality of process — how each decision, surface, and exposure can transform an image into something unexpected and alive.

Lately, Rothenberg has been focused on an ambitious series of kallitypes, an iron-silver photographic process known for its tonal richness and hands-on precision. Within this medium, he continues to push boundaries: merging kallitypes with etching techniques to create tactile, dimensional compositions, and developing works using manual double exposures, where two images are exposed on the same paper by hand rather than digitally or in-camera. These experiments yield haunting, often surreal results that blur the line between photography and printmaking, image and artefact.

Daniel’s work resists easy categorization. It is process-driven yet conceptually rich, rooted in craft but always reaching toward the unfamiliar. With each piece, he explores not only what an image can be but how it can be made—inviting viewers into a visual conversation shaped by curiosity, imperfection, and transformation.
