4 events you should not miss in 2023

We thought we’d give you a heads up so you can put these 4 events in your calendar for 2023. 2 are for Supporting Members only and 2 are open for everyone. Don’t hesitate to take part!

Anna Atkins tribute event – now closed

As many cyanotypers know, Anna Atkins was a pioneer and the first person to make a book with photographs. We are announcing a call for entries to create cyanotypes in Anna Atkins’ style. Cyanotypes will be selected for a calendar or diary depending how many entries we get.
Any profits from sales of the calendar will contribute towards the costs of running AlternativePhotography.com.
How to prepare:
If you are new to cyanotypes, you can read this article or learn more in this book.
If you are a seasoned cyanotyper, start researching the “Anna Atkin style” of photographs. Here are some examples.
This event is open to Supporting Members.
Opens: Beginning of March (now closed!)
Deadline: 16th of March (Anna Atkins’ birthday)

Christmas cards 2023 – now closed

To help spread the word of alt. proc. we are doing Christmas cards that can be sent to friends and family – as this may inspire someone to start their own journey of alt. proc. photography!
A number of prints will be selected for AlternativePhotography.com greeting cards. We are hoping for a wide range of different alt. proc. processes to show them off, so if you are working in gum bichromates, platinum palladium, salt prints, carbon printing, cyanotypes, anthotypes or any other alternative photographic process, you are welcome to enter your print. Use a familiar process or take the opportunity to learn a new process for the event.
The cards will be sold on AlternativePhotography.com.
Any profits from sales of the cards will contribute towards the costs of running AlternativePhotography.com.
Open to Supporting Members.
Opens: 10 of June 2023
Deadline: 8th of July 2023 (yes, 6 months before Xmas which will give us enough time to have them ready for Christmas 2023).

World Anthotype Day 2023 – now closed

We enjoyed the first anthotype day SO MUCH, so we decided to run World Anthotype Day again this year. The event will be in August, but since exposure times can be very very long, we give you a heads-up now, to start experimenting. There will not be a specific theme this year, instead, we encourage you to EXPERIMENT and find UNUSUAL emulsions.
How to prepare:
If you are new to anthotypes read this article or learn from this book.
If you are an experienced anthotyper, do try and find an unusual emulsion. Last year’s emulsions can be found here (scroll down to the bottom).
The event is open to everyone.
Opens: Now closed for entries.
