For the third year running the AlternativePhotography.com calendar competition is now open for entries – alt proc only. Deadline Friday 7th of October 2011. As well as having the chance to be included in the calendar, there are also prizes for all of the 12 who make it into the 2012 AlternativePhotography.com calendar.
When to enter
Start now. Entries will be accepted until the deadline, which is Friday the 7th of October 2011.
What to enter
Eligibility: All photographs entered should use an alternative photographic process, such as albumen, anthotype, argyrotype, carbon, chrysotype, cyanotype, bromoil, gum bichromate, gumoil, infrared, kallitype, vandyke, platinum/palladium, photogravure, polaroid lift, transfer and sx-70, salt print, temperaprint, vandyke, wet plate collodion, ziatype and other alternative photographic processes. It is nice if the work has been completed within the last 2 years, but not a must.
What not to enter
No digital, c-prints, or gelatin silver prints, pinholes, unless of course they are combined with an alternative process, lumen are fine. All subject matters apart from nudes acceptable.
How to enter
It is a worldwide event. Anyone can enter. All submissions must be sent by email. Only ONE image per artist.
And, please, make my life easier by DOING ALL OF THIS:
- An image in digital format, in LANDSCAPE format, not portrait, but square is fine, the original MUST be made with an alternative photographic process. The scan should measure exactly 11.25 (wide) x 8.75 inches (tall) at 300 dpi. The measurement is WITH bleed, the final size will be 11×8.5 inches. If the image is smaller than that, please add white space to fill it out to the right size. Yes, last year we accepted portrait format, but this year we decided not to. You must send a high resolution scan, or your image will not be entered.
- The file in jpeg format.
- The title of the image.
- Your name (i.e. the artists name), please also name your file with your name, i.e. John-Doe.jpg
- Which alternative photographic process was used to make the image.
- Label the message “Competition”

How the selection is made
All images will be added to a gallery. 6 of the images will be selected by a jury. This part is ONLY open to all artist who are Supporting Members of this website. 6 images will be chosen by visitors to the website will act as a jury voting for the winner. This part is open to EVERYONE. There will be a week of voting. The 12 selected images will be added to the calendar.
What you will win
The 12 images will be used in the official AlternativePhotography.com 2012 calendar. The calendar will be available for purchase at Lulu.com.
All 12 winners will receive a prize.
The winners will be able to choose which prize they would like by order of the number of votes they receive. I.e. the author of the image with the most votes will choose first.
Winners will be notified at the latest by the 15th of November, but most likely earlier.
Copyright
You will of course retain copyright to your work. But, by entering the competition you will agree that your name and image can be displayed on the website or to promote future competitions at AlterantivePhotography.com. The top twelve entries may also be used in the AlternativePhotography.com 2011 calendar. By entering the competition you have confirmed you have authorised this.
