"Fabbri is wonderfully attentive and helpful with adding your book to the website."

From Christina Z. Anderson:
If you are selling a book, have a stack of them at home. Weigh one at the post office and figure out postage and mailing cost. If the book is small enough to fit into the priority mail envelope you will pay a flat rate in the US (even to Hawaii).

Once you know the weight you can go on the Uspo website and scroll through countries to find the most expensive postage and tack that onto overseas orders.

Try to be able to process the order within a few days, by having mailers and printed books all ready. I always add a confirmation receipt number to mail to make sure it is received.

Paypal is GREAT! They now even have a way to earn interest on your account if you leave the money in there.

Alternative processes may be a small corner of the photography market but it's growing. Many photographers have decided to take up the old handmade processes instead of settling for the "digital" and "ready-made" options available to them.

Some photographers become hooked, some become experts and some become obsessed. And many feel the need to share their experiences and knowledge by writing a book.
It may be that publishers don't realize just how interesting alternative processes are, or find the subject too specialist, but it's hard to get a book published.

That's when it's time for many to take publishing into their own hands and self-publish.

Finding a distribution channel for a self-published book isn't always easy. And, leaving it in the desk drawer would deny all other alternative process enthusiasts the chance of reading it.

A lot of information on the alternative processes is available on the web, and a lot of enthusiasts come to sites like this. Currently there are 42 000 visitors to this site each month.

The way it works is this:

  • You send us information about your book or product like cover images or product shoots, description, summary price and postage.
  • We set up a page for your book or product. See an example.
  • We market your book or product towards visitors interested in your particular subject, and perhaps in the newsletter. It will also be added to the end of any book extract or article you write. See an example.
  • A visitor buys your book or product. We pass on the address to you and the money, minus our commission. We pass the money on to you through Paypal (you need to set up a Paypal account). This is very easy and it is free for you to receive the payment.
  • You send out the book or product to the visitor. It is your responsibility to make sure it gets there and within reasonable time.
  • We contact the visitor some time afterwards for feedback on your book or product. This feedback will be passed on to you.

Sound good? Please contact us if you have a self-published book, or indeed, any other relevant product. May it be a pinhole camera, or some new invention as long as it's related to alternative processes.
