Margrieta Jeltema was born under Northern skies, in the Netherlands, but lives with her family in Italy, near Milan.
"Making pictures and prints has been for a long time part of my life; since my father introduced me to the mysteries of his magical self build darkroom in the attic of our old house that looked over the river landscapes near Rotterdam."
Her first works as an artist were mainly etchings, printings, paintings and poetry, more recently she discovered ceramics and in the same time she returned even more intensely as before to her love for photography using anything from her fathers old folding camera's to medium format.
Margrieta's most recent work is made with a whole plate camera, she loves the simplicity of it and thinks it is like learning photography all over from the beginning once more. She feels attracted to the earlier printing methods.
"It is like making in person a journey through history, through human inventiveness, participating and inventing and experimenting new ways to look and see."
Note: The pictures shown here are all albumen prints, some gold toned.
