Brandon Geistdoerfer-Munger is a self taught photographer who discovered photography after completing a B.A in digital video production. In 2009 Brandon moved to NY where the city became an immediate influence on his work. Coming from the midwest where large open space is abundant, the cramped and closed spaces of the city offer a new world to explore, bringing a new dynamic on special relationships and the meaning of scale. He is drawn to the moments of calm and simple in the fast, hectic lifestyle in New York, a way to capture the simple melodies of the plains in the symphony that is NYC.
In spring of 2010 Brandon began working with cyanotypes as a way of producing prints that were hand made. He also has a fascination with the dichotomy between a digital and historical process. There is a balance between the technical skills of a photographer and their equipment, and the intuition that goes in to crafting an image. By practicing alternative processes, Brandon is able to explore the balance between age old techniques and digital precision from the chaotic middle.
