Ivan Bernal Palli is a Spanish photographer living and working in Edinburgh. He has been doing traditional wet darkroom photography for over 10 years. Ivan initially studied photography in Barcelona and since then he has further developed his work printing and experimenting with different techniques.
For the last 5 years Ivan has been working with the Lith printing process which offers him a wide range of options for interpreting an image.
Ivan’s photography is influenced by the Pictoralism movement. His work is very atmospheric, highly focused in aesthetics and his photographs have a unique dreamlike quality. An important part of Ivan’s work is the use of old vintage cameras, which in his opinion render reality differently than modern equipment. Ivan uses this combination of old lenses and lith printing in his attempt to make images that depict a different reality, images that open a little window to some place else.
Ivan’s latest work is a series of photographs of trees taken in Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh, a project that has expanded for 5 years.
