Way back when, before the advent of collodion wet plates, albumen was used to create glass plate negatives. Has anybody here tried this process? I have decided to give it a go, following the instructions in The Silver Sunbeam by J. Towler and The Photographic Negative by W.H. Burbank.

I have coated my first plates with the salted albumen mixture. They are currently drying in a (hopefully) dust free place. Next step is sensitizing and then I will be exposing them in a 5x7 GOMZ field camera that I stumbled upon a few months ago.

I attempted to use the Silver Sunbeam as a resource back in the 1970s. I found that most of their formulae, etc. were essentially fantasies. I came to refer to the book as The Silver Humbug.

There's not inherent reason why it shouldn't work, however. But plan on doing a lot of experimenting. Start small since silver nitrate is expensive.
