Convergence
8 Photographers
Essays: Deborah Willis, Anita Douthat, and Edmond Barry Gaither
(1990), Photographic Resource Center, Boston
Format: 32 pages An Exhibition Organized by The Photographic Resource Center in Collaboration with the Visual Studies Workshop. Convergence is a catalogue of contemporary African-American artists including Albert Chong, Todd Gray, Jeffrey Scales, Coreen Simpson, Clarissa Sligh, Elisabeth Sunday, Christian Wlaker, and Wendel White. These artists work in a variety of photographic media--silver-gelatin black-and-white prints, color prints, and cyanotypes. There are both straight and manipulated images. The essay by Edmund Barry Gaither, curator and director of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists provides a valuable historic setting to this diverse collection of images.
