Stefan Sappert was born 1982 in Vienna and lives in Austria. He studied artistic photography at the Praque School for Photography in Austria. Stefan worked himself backwards in the history of photography. Started digital years ago, then turned into classic b&w film and finally ended up working with a 19th century photographic process: Collodion Wetplate. He is working with black glass Ambrotypes exclusively.
"I work with ambrotypes because I really like all the small mistakes the process brings with it, I think it mirrors our human imperfections.
This is perfect for my portrait work. It gives the evidence, that each image is a handmade artifact. Unique, like the people I photograph."
