Mary began her study of photography while studying art at UCSB. Largely self-taught, Mary delights in bending the rules of photography to create unusual images, that are largely abstract in nature. Her work has appeared in a variety of magazines and on several websites, including: Takegreatpictures.com, American Photo Mentor Series, Petersen's Photographic Magazine, and Copley Newspapers. She is represented by Art Source L.A., Inc. who markets her work to their international roster of hotel, restaurant and corporate venues.
Not strictly an alternative process, Mary says about her 'self-invented' heat treated transparencies:
Over the years, I've done some experimenting on my own with slide film. Rather than discard the slides I don't like, I simply make duplicates and then play around with them using heat to distort the images.
