Laura is a graphic designer who fulfills her artistic whimsy from the corporate world through alternative photography. In 1999, she was awarded a Fulbright grant to create a photo-documentary of Latvia's cemetery culture using traditional black and white silver prints.

Most of L. Beldavs' photographic work deals with society and a person’s relationship with oneself. The photo-documentary of Latvia’s cemetery culture portrayed a sense of community, by showing people’s activities and traditions around and within the cemetery. Another past body of work dealt with advertising imagery during the 40s and 50s, juxtaposing WWII working women with the domestic queens of the Fabulous Fifties.

Currently she is exploring the imagery within our own selves using cyanotypes. Her next step in the creative process is to also incorporate a pinhole camera.

Human society is infinitely fascinating. We are capable of being celebrative and joyful one moment, and totally hateful and destructive the next.
