Kirk is the only known practioner in the UK of the Oleobrom process
an off shoot of the bromoil process. (Please let us know if you
know anyone else!)
Kirk's love affair with the pigment process began a decade ago.
After discovering etching type images in old photographic books.
In 1986 Kirk joined the Royal Photographic society, then in 1992
The Bromoil Circle Of Great Britain, gaining a distinction with
a panel of 12x16 size bromoils from The Royal Photographic Society
in 1997.
Kirk now lectures and demonstrates along with workshops bromoil
and oleobrom. He has given talks and demonstrations of oleobrom
at the APIS, Bradford. Kirk has frequently had work published and
exhibited in the UK. He also is a member of the International Society
of Bromoilists.
Kirk says about his work:
"As a Turner Society member I feel like J.M.W Turner
in his paintings that bromoil, oleobrom captures the 'Spirit of
the place' which I cannot find through conventional silver printing."
