Working primarily with alternative processes, Eric Mertens has recently concentrated with the daguerreotype process. In his last semester of college he and a classmate learned about the wet plate process and experimented with making ambrotypes. After graduation he continued making ambrotypes but found an extreme interest in daguerreotypes. Since ’03 he has attended two private tutorials with Mike Robinson, acquired all necessary equipment (most handmade) and has been successfully creating daguerreotype portraits landscapes, and nudes all following the 19th century hot mercury techniques.
