Currently I am an assistant professor at Montana State University, teaching experimental photography, alternative process photography, and nonfiction in a department that has 130 photo majors. My specialties are experimental photography and alternative processes, specifically gum printing. I love pushing the photographic process. Two of my books, The Experimental Photography Workbook, and Alternative Processes Condensedare available on this website, and in the works is a book on gum printing. Previously, my book on the nude in art was published in 2000 called Tutti Nudi, Reflections on the Reemergence of the Nude During the Italian Renaissance (available at Amazon.com). These writings I consider my gifts back to a culture that provides me so generously with never-ending creative material. The mordancages here are examples of a process covered in myExperimental Photography Workbook. All other images are tricolor gum prints, usually (but not always) with a cyanotype base layer. I use Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Press paper (FAEW), size my paper well with a glutaraldehyde hardened gelatin, and mix my own gum Arabic from powder at a 1+2 dilution weight to volume. I use artist grade tube watercolors. All prints are 3, occasionally 4 layers. The print sizes are 8x10 to 11x17, and are part of a large body of work called Contemporary Vanitas.
