While living in London, she embarked on a project relating to the River Thames. Over a course of two years, she hiked along the river from the source in the Cotswolds to the Thames Barrier, making photographs along the way. After a return to the United States, she completed a similar project along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal from Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, Maryland. Her work has been shown in the United States and England, and is included in several private collections. Photography is, for her, a way of engaging more fully in life, creating a heightened visual sensitivity and an appreciation for the light, color, and spirit of a place. Working with alternative processes takes this one step further into an almost magical realm. Her favorite processes are temperaprint and photo-intaglio. Barbara says: Rooted deeply in early photography, temperaprint and photo-intaglio are full of possibility for experimentation. I love it when happy accidents intersect with craftsmanship. That's what you might call serendipity.
